Jay got the #1 spot this week with a better-than-expected 465,448 total albums sold. Rae sold 400,000 less, which is also better-than-expected even though the album was arguably better-than-BP3. Buuuut The Beatles are the real winners with roughly 485,000 total albums sold this week after the release of the remaster of their entire catalogue. #1’s still good though.
Now this is unfortunate. It has always been too easy for people to turn their noses up at Kanye West and his music because “He’s an asshole.” For that reason and because his albums (particularly Late Registration) have a special place in my heart, I have always been one to stand up for the guy. That is not to say that I didn’t think West was an asshole, but rather that it doesn’t matter. His conceit never affected his music, nor did it hurt anyone. With one exception: “If I don’t win, the award show loses credibility.”
Because this outburst was at the MTV Europe Awards, which are watched by 0 Americans and potentially 100 Europeans, the situation blew over pretty quickly. Plus, West went on to shoot his “Good Life” video with the same directors he stepped on in Europe. He couldn’t beat ’em, he joined ’em, everyone went home happy.
In the recent past, particularly since the death of Donda West and the release of 808’s & Heartbreak, West’s wackness had decreased significantly. He was even able to take a step back and laugh at himself after the “fishsticks” fiasco. Yes, things were going pretty well for Kanye “Executive Producer of Blueprint 3” West. Until last night’s VMA’s:

The good people at Complex Mag put together a list of the top 100 albums of this decade (Who else had no idea it was almost over?), with more 100 Best’s to come. The list starts with 808’s & Heartbreak and ends with…
